Upper Mustang Trekking

Overview
Mustang Trekking in Nepal offers one of the most unique and culturally rich trekking experiences in the Himalayas. Located north of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, the region-known locally as Lo and internationally as Mustang-was once a secluded Himalayan kingdom, famously referred to as “The Forbidden Kingdom.” Opened to foreign trekkers only in 1992, Mustang has preserved its ancient Tibetan culture, medieval villages, and centuries-old monasteries that line the historic Kali Gandaki trade route to Tibet. Situated in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, the Mustang region is characterized by a dramatic high-desert landscape of deep gorges, wind-carved cliffs, colorful rock formations, and vast barren valleys. This striking terrain is completely different from the lush green hills and alpine forests found in other trekking regions of Nepal.
The Upper Mustang Trek is a journey through time, offering breathtaking scenery, deep-rooted Himalayan heritage, and authentic Tibetan-influenced culture. From the walled city of Lo Manthang to ancient caves, monasteries, and traditional villages, this trek provides a rare opportunity to explore one of Nepal’s most restricted and culturally preserved regions. It is an exceptional choice for travelers seeking adventure, history, and true off-the-beaten-path exploration in the Himalayas.
