Overview

Embark on an unforgettable motorbike expedition to Upper Dolpo, a daring journey through the hidden heart of the Himalayas. Widely regarded as one of the most challenging motorbike tours in the entire Himalayas region, this adventure pushes riders to their limits with extreme altitudes, multiple passes over 5,000 meters, unpredictable weather, rugged terrain, and long stretches of remote roads, making it a true test of endurance, skill, and determination. Beginning in the windswept valley of Jomsom, your ride traces ancient trans-Himalayan trade routes that once connected Nepal and Tibet. The trail leads westward toward Chharka Bhot, the world's highest human habitation at 4350 m, surrounded by vast, treeless ridges and centuries-old monasteries. From here, you’ll descend into the mystical valley of Dho Tarap, where stone houses cling to the cliffs and the air hums with the rhythm of Tibetan chants. Continuing north, the path climbs over rugged high passes toward Shey Gompa, the “Crystal Monastery” made famous by Peter Matthiessen’s The Snow Leopard. The journey unfolds across the stark yet mesmerizing landscapes of Saldang and Tinje, villages perched high above the valleys, where the Dolpa people preserve an ancient Buddhist culture unchanged for generations. Every mile of this expedition is an encounter with raw wilderness, roaring rivers, endless plateaus, and panoramic views of snow-draped peaks. It’s a test of endurance and spirit, a ride where adventure meets serenity. Completing the loop back to Jomsom, you’ll not only conquer one of the most remote motorbike routes on the planet but also experience the profound stillness and beauty that define the soul of the Himalayas.
