Mustang Trek "The Forbidden Kingdom”
Overview
At the head of the Kaligandaki River, north of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains lies one of the most culturally interesting and scenically dramatic regions in Nepal known by its inhabitants as Lo and by the rest of the world as Mustang. This tiny principality remained shrouded in mystery until the Nepalese government finally opened it to foreigners in 1992. Mustang trek is one of Nepal’s most unique trekking experiences offering a chance to explore the ancient and mystical Kingdom also known as “The Forbidden Kingdom”. It lies in the rain-shadow of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges, giving it a distinct, barren landscape compared to other trekking region of Nepal. Historically much of this region’s prosperity derived from its position on the Kaligandaki Trade route to Tibet and under the patronage of its rulers many monasteries and other religious edifice were constructed. Mustang Trekking offers a unique blend of adventure, culture, and dramatic landscapes unlike anywhere else in Nepal.
