Overview
Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, in southeastern Nepal, is a true haven for bird enthusiasts. Covering over 175 sq km of wetlands, grasslands, and riverine forests, it hosts more than 485 bird species, including 14 endemic species found nowhere else in Nepal. Birdwatchers can spot an incredible variety of 20 duck species and 2 ibis species to shorebirds, waterfowl, and rare sightings like the endangered Bengal Florican and Swamp Partridge. Iconic birds such as the White-tailed Stonechat and Striated Marsh Warbler add to the diversity. The Koshi Barrage is a crucial resting site for migratory birds, attracting 87 winter and trans-Himalayan species, making this reserve one of Nepal’s most important and rewarding destinations for bird watching and wildlife photography.
