Api Himal Trek Nepal
Overview
The Api Himal Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal’s most remote and least explored trekking routes, leading deep into the wild and culturally rich Far Western region of the country. Towering at 7,132 meters, Mount Api is the highest peak in western Nepal, yet it remains largely unseen by most trekkers, making this journey a truly off-the-beaten-path adventure. The region first drew attention in the early 20th century with exploratory visits by British adventurers Henry Savage Landor (1899) and Tom Longstaff (1905), followed by Swiss geologists Arnold Heim and August Gansser in 1936. Japanese expeditions later succeeded in summiting Api and nearby peaks in the 1960s and '70s, but the area remains largely untouched by mainstream tourism. Traversing alpine meadows, dense forests, and hidden valleys, the trail offers dramatic views of snow-covered summits, waterfalls, and rugged landscapes. It also provides intimate encounters with the Byansi, Raji, and Chhetri communities indigenous groups whose customs and way of life have remained preserved for generations.
