Overview
Bandipur is a picturesque hilltop town in Nepal’s Tanahun District, renowned for its rich cultural heritage, well-preserved Newari architecture, and breathtaking views of the Himalayan range. Following the 1768 unification campaign of King Prithvi Narayan Shah, Newar businessmen from the Kathmandu Valley migrated to the hills and established trading posts, transforming Bandipur into a thriving commercial center. In the 1800s this bazaar town grew in wealth and importance. Traders came from Tibet with musk, mountain herbs, animal skins, horses, calico, tobacco, and glassware. Kerosene came from British India, and they used to meet in Bandipur for trade exchange. Today, Bandipur retains its timeless charm through stone-paved streets, traditional houses, and vibrant local customs. Surrounded by lush forests, caves, and scenic viewpoints, it offers a serene atmosphere and excellent opportunities for ecotourism, making it a popular destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and cultural exploration.
